The Where You Work Matters list, powered by the American Opportunity Index, is an independent rating of how well the largest US employers are creating high quality jobs, recognizing those doing the best in advancing, paying and retaining their workers.

Disclosure: The list, powered by the American Opportunity Index, is a joint project of the Burning Glass Institute and the Schultz Family Foundation. The methodology was developed in partnership with the Harvard Business School Project on Managing the Future of Work. The list assessed 1,750 employers across public traded, private and non-profits, representing over 12million US workers measuring employee career progression across all occupations using six key metrics – Internal Promotions, Outside Advancement Opportunities, Compensation, Employee Retention, Entry Level Opportunities and the percent of a company’s top personnel who were promoted from within.
