Becoming a New Client

The start of your financial journey is a personalised process designed to prioritise your unique needs, financial situation and long-term goals. Below is a step-by-step process of what to expect as you become a new client.

Seven Simple Steps to Becoming a Client


1. Initial Consultation

Begin your journey by requesting an appointment to speak with one of our experienced representatives. We’ll take the time to learn about your financial goals, unique circumstances and current investments, and together, we will determine if we are the right fit for you and your long-term goals.

2. Client Agreement Letter

If Fisher Investments New Zealand is the right fit for you and you want to formally become a client, you will complete a Confidential Client Agreement.

3. Client Service Team Introduction

Next, you’ll be introduced to your Fisher Investments New Zealand Investment Counsellor, your primary point of contact and liaison to the strategic portfolio decision-makers, the Fisher Investments Investment Policy Committee (IPC). During this in-depth introduction, we’ll seek to learn more about your retirement goals, financial situation, family, health, as well as your interests and aspirations. The better your Investment Counsellor knows you, the better Fisher Investments New Zealand can tailor an investment strategy to your unique financial objectives.

4. Account Set-Up & Funding

We’ll assist you in establishing your account(s) with large, well-known third-party financial institutions who will be your custodian and hold your assets. To make the process as simple and seamless as possible, we will help you complete any necessary paperwork to establish your account(s) and initiate transfers.

5. Financial Summary & Portfolio Recommendation

Your Investment Counsellor will share details from your introductory meeting with the Portfolio Evaluation Group, who will create a portfolio recommendation tailored to you at the direction of the IPC. We’ll walk you through this recommendation to help clarify every aspect.

6. Strategy Implementation

Once you’ve discussed and approved your portfolio recommendation with your Investment Counsellor, your tailored strategy will be implemented.

7. Ongoing Support

After becoming a client, you’ll receive world-class client service and support tailored to you. This includes exclusive client communications to keep you informed about our latest views on capital markets, along with access to additional informational resources.

What to Expect in Your First Year as a Client

After the implementation of your portfolio strategy, you’ll receive regular, relevant portfolio and market insights via a wide variety of exclusive, on-demand, proactive communications.
